Gauged Earrings, Plugs, Earlets & Tapers
We recieve a lot of questions about what the difference is between gauged earrings, plugs, earlets & tapers. The differences are quite subtle and all of the mentoned are used for pretty much the same purpose which is gauging ears. Gauged earrings and plugs are typically any type of larger then standard gauge jewelry for use in earlobes to keep your stretched lobe open. Earlets are a type of gauged earring typically having a hole in the middle for effect. They are also known as tunnels. Screw on tunnels, double flared hollow tunnels and single flared hollow tunnels are all forms of earlets. Tapers (also known as stretchers) are used for moving between size is gaubed ears. You typically use a taper to move up in sizes. Using a taper greatly reduces your chances of a flareup or blowout.
